How we build your store

Four things we put in writing before any design starts

Store in your name

Domain, hosting, payment gateway and admin logins belong to your company.

The person who builds your store is the person who answers your questions.

What is ecommerce website development?

Ecommerce website development is the design and building of an online store that can show products, take payment and send orders to you. It covers the storefront and product pages, the cart and checkout, the payment gateway, shipping and tax settings, the admin area where you manage orders, and the speed and search setup that decide whether anyone finds the store.

As an ecommerce website development company in Chennai, and part of a digital marketing agency in Chennai, we do this as one job, with the same team that runs SEO and ads, so the store is built to be found and not only to look good.

Shopify, WooCommerce or custom?

Shopify is the quickest way to start and the easiest to manage. WooCommerce gives you the most control and suits large catalogues, but you look after hosting and updates. A custom build suits rules the platforms cannot handle, and costs the most.

The comparison table below shows the trade-offs. We tell you plainly if a cheaper option does the job.

What we build

Shopify store development

Founders and brands who want to start selling soon and prefer the platform to handle hosting and security

Shopify suits you when you want to launch quickly and manage orders without touching code. You pay the platform a monthly fee and transaction fees, so we show the full running cost before you choose. For the build that sits behind it, see our website development page.

  • Store set up on your own Shopify account, not ours
  • Theme customised for your brand and for fast mobile loading
  • Products, collections, GST settings and shipping rules entered and tested
  • Checkout tested with UPI, cards and cash on delivery before launch

Best for

Small and mid-sized catalogues, D2C brands and teams without a developer

Formats

Theme setup and customisation, product import, apps, payment and shipping setup

Choosing a platform

Shopify, WooCommerce and custom: how they compare

There is no best platform, only the best fit for what you sell and who will run the store. This table shows the trade-offs.

Shopify, WooCommerce and custom ecommerce builds compared
PlatformBest forWhat you pay besides the buildMain limit
ShopifyA fast launch, small and mid-sized catalogues, owners who do not want to manage serversA monthly plan fee, payment fees, GST and any paid appsLess control of checkout and of how your data is stored
WooCommerceLarge catalogues, B2B pricing, stores that already run on WordPressHosting, premium plugins and upkeep, but no platform fee on salesYou or your developer must keep it updated, fast and secure
Custom buildMarketplaces, complex rules and links to your own systemsHosting and ongoing development timeHighest cost and longest build, and it needs a developer for changes

We build on all three and do not earn extra from any platform. If one of the first two fits, we will say so before suggesting a custom build.

Choosing where to start

Where we start, by what you sell

The right first build depends on your catalogue and your team. This table shows where we begin.

Where we start, by type of store
What you sellWe would start withWhat we check first
Under 50 products, selling to individualsShopify or a lean WooCommerce storeWhether you can manage orders yourself each day
Hundreds of products with many variationsWooCommerce on fast hosting, or customSearch, filters and page speed with the full catalogue loaded
Wholesale or business customersWooCommerce or custom with login and quantity pricingHow pricing and credit terms work for each buyer
Selling across India and abroadShopify, or WooCommerce with an international gatewayWhich payment methods and shipping rates each country needs
A marketplace with many sellersA custom build, scoped in stagesSeller sign-up, payouts and who handles returns

If you already have a store, we can review it first. Moving platforms is possible, and we plan the redirects so search rankings are not lost.

Before launch

What every store we build must pass before it goes live

A store can look finished and still lose orders at checkout. We test these parts on a real phone before launch.

Launch checklist: what we build in and how we check it

Six questions to ask before you choose an ecommerce website development company

Ask every company the same questions and compare the answers. Our guide on how to choose an agency works for developers too.

  1. 1

Which platform do you recommend, and why?

A company that only builds one platform will recommend that one. Ask what would make them suggest a different one.

  2. 2

Whose name are the accounts in?

The domain, hosting, gateway and store admin should all be in your company name from day one.

  3. 3

What is in the quote, and what is extra?

Ask about themes, apps, plugins, gateway fees, hosting and yearly renewals. They are often left out.

  4. 4

How will the store be tested before launch?

Ask for test orders on each payment method, on a real phone.

  5. 5

What happens if something breaks after launch?

Ask for a named contact, a response time in writing and the price of a support plan.

  6. 6

Do I get the source code and every login?

You should, in writing, once the final payment is made.

Ecommerce website development FAQs

Plain answers on cost, platforms, payments and ownership.

How much does ecommerce website development cost in Chennai?

We could not find a published Chennai price list, so we will not invent one. Public guides give these ranges for India: OrangeMantra puts a basic Shopify or WooCommerce store at ₹50,000 to ₹1,50,000 and a custom build at ₹3 to ₹10 lakh; Akoode puts Shopify at ₹30,000 to ₹2,00,000 and an ecommerce site at ₹80,000 to ₹5,00,000 or more; Zethic puts a WooCommerce store of up to 50 products at ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000.

These are market ranges from other companies, not our price list. Our quote is written after we see your catalogue and shows the build fee, the running costs and the GST separately. Our website development cost guide explains what moves the price.

Which is better for my business: Shopify, WooCommerce or a custom store?

It depends on your catalogue, your team and your rules. Shopify suits a quick launch and a small team, WooCommerce suits large catalogues and owners who want control, and a custom build suits needs the platforms cannot meet. The table above compares them, and in the scoping step we recommend one in writing with the reason.

What does a payment gateway cost?

Fees vary by gateway and method, and they change. Razorpay’s own pricing guide (updated September 2026) lists 2% on most domestic payment methods and 3% on EMI and international cards, with 18% GST on the fee. We set up your gateway account in your company name, so the fees are between you and the gateway.

Check your chosen gateway’s current page before you decide, as promotions and plans change.

How much does Shopify cost to run each month?

A third-party report from July 2026 listed Shopify India Basic at ₹1,499 a month on yearly billing before GST, plus transaction fees if you use another gateway, and paid apps and themes on top. Shopify’s own cost guide quotes dollar prices only, so check its India page for today’s plans. We show the full monthly running cost before you pick a platform.

Can customers pay by UPI and cash on delivery?

Yes, if your gateway and platform support them, which the common ones do. We set up UPI, cards, netbanking and wallets through your gateway, and cash on delivery with rules you choose, such as pin-code limits or a small fee. We test each method with a real order before launch.

Who owns the store, domain and code?

You do. The domain, hosting, payment gateway account, store admin and analytics are created in your company name, or handed over in full, and we are added as users. For custom builds, the source code is handed over once the final payment is made.

How long does it take to build an online store?

It depends on the platform, the number of products, the features and how quickly you send content and approvals. We will not quote a number before seeing the catalogue. The written scope gives a timeline with dates for each of the six steps, and we tell you if a date depends on something from your side.

Can you move my existing store to another platform?

Yes. We move products, customers and order history where the platforms allow it, and plan redirects from every old address so search rankings and links are not lost. We also run a test order on the new store before the switch.

Will my new store show up on Google?

Nothing can promise a ranking. What we do is build the store so Google can read it: clean product and category pages, titles and descriptions, product schema, a sitemap and fast loading. Search takes time, so we pair launch with ads and email if you need early orders. See our SEO services and PPC pages.

Do you also list my products on Amazon or Flipkart?

No. We build your own store and market it through search, ads, email and WhatsApp. Marketplace listings are separate accounts with their own rules. If marketplaces suit your products better than your own store, we will say so.
