What it costs to outsource digital marketing to India
There is no single going rate. Prices below come from pricing guides and agency rate cards seen in October 2026, with each seller’s interest noted, because a page selling one model will make the others look expensive.
| Source and date | What it says | Note on the source |
|---|---|---|
| Clutch (updated Sep 21, 2026) | Hourly rates: US $100–$149; India under $25; Philippines $25–$49; Poland $50–$99. Typical monthly spend: $5,000–$50,000 | Directory covering 106,000+ agencies; global monthly figure |
| WebFX (updated Sep 29, 2026) | US average: $1,000–$20,000+ a month. SEO $500–$5,000; PPC $1,500–$15,000; social $750–$7,000 | US agency; survey of 250+ US marketing professionals |
| Mavlers (May 8, 2024) | India SEO $199–$999 a month; about $25 an hour | Indian agency; two years old |
| upGrowth (updated Sep 17, 2026) | India monthly: SEO ₹10,000–₹50,000; PPC ₹20,000–₹1,00,000; social ₹15,000–₹30,000 | Agency’s own rate card, in rupees |
| ROI Minds (modified Jan 23, 2026) | India hourly $15–$49; retainers ₹30,000–₹5,00,000+ | Self-promotional list; the author ranks itself first |
| Wisemonk (Sep 16, 2026) | Full-service India agency $5,000–$25,000 a month; a single channel $1,000–$20,000; an employed 3–4 person team $7,000–$11,000 | Sells employer-of-record services, so it has a reason to make agencies look costly |
Rupee figures are shown as published; we do not convert them because exchange rates move. Prices are for management fees only and exclude your ad spend.
Why the numbers disagree: the pages are measuring different things. Hourly rates are not monthly packages, a $199 SEO plan is not a $5,000 full-service team, and a directory average mixes freelancers with large agencies. The only way to compare is to ask each provider for the all-in monthly figure for a written scope, and then compare what each includes.
For a sense of the alternative, the Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median pay of a US marketing specialist at $78,760 a year (May 2025 data), which is about $6,563 a month in salary alone, before benefits, payroll taxes and software. That is one person, not a team.
One number does not change: your ad budget. If you spend $3,000 a month on Google Ads, you still spend $3,000. Outsourcing lowers the management fee, not the media cost.
Is outsourcing marketing to India worth it, and for whom?
It tends to suit execution-heavy work that can be specified, and two different buyers: a business that wants a team without a US payroll, and a US agency that needs delivery capacity.
The business owner. If you need ads managed, pages built and reports sent, and you can write down what good looks like, an India-based team can do it at a lower cost base. If you are still working out your positioning, offer or customer, outsourcing the execution will not fix that, and you will be paying a team to guess.
The US agency. If you sell marketing and need more hands for audits, content, reporting or ad builds, an India-based supplier can sit behind your brand. We cover this in the white label section below.
The counter-trend is worth knowing about. The Association of National Advertisers’ 2026 report on in-house agencies (June 2026) found respondents five times more likely to say marketers are in-housing more than ever than to say they are pulling back. Many large brands are bringing work close, not sending it away. That is a reason to outsource the production and measurement, and keep the decisions about brand and offer with someone inside your company.
Which work travels well offshore, and which should stay close
This is our own judgment, not a published statistic. Work that is specified, repeatable and measurable travels. Work that depends on speed or local knowledge does not.
| Travels well | Why | Keep close | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ad management (Google, Meta) | Same interface anywhere; results are visible daily | Crisis response | A decision that cannot wait eight hours needs someone in your time zone |
| Technical SEO and audits | Checkable against the live site | Local idiom in copy | Regional American phrasing is best written or reviewed locally |
| Website builds and fixes | A specification, a test link, a launch date | Cold calling your prospects | Time zone and accent both work against it; email and LinkedIn outreach travel fine |
| Tracking and reporting setup | It fires correctly or it does not, and you can verify it | Undefined work | “Make us look premium” fails faster at distance |
| Creative and content at volume | Works once brand rules are written down | In-person work | Shoots, events, client meetings |
How to handle the time difference
India is on UTC+5:30 all year and does not observe daylight saving time. The gap with the US changes by an hour twice a year, so any fixed overlap window moves with it.
| US time zone | US summer time | US winter time |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern | 9.5 hours ahead | 10.5 hours ahead |
| Central | 10.5 hours ahead | 11.5 hours ahead |
| Mountain | 11.5 hours ahead | 12.5 hours ahead |
| Pacific | 12.5 hours ahead | 13.5 hours ahead |
US daylight saving time ends November 1, 2026 and starts again March 14, 2027. Figures are our own calculation from those dates.
A call at 8 a.m. Eastern is 5:30 p.m. in India during US summer time and 6:30 p.m. after the clocks go back. A team that works 12:00 to 9:00 p.m. India time can overlap with a US 8-to-5 day for about 3.5 hours on the East Coast in summer (2.5 in winter), 2.5 hours Central (1.5 in winter), 1.5 hours Mountain (0.5 in winter), and half an hour on the Pacific coast in summer and none in winter. A team on a normal India day, 9:30 to 6:30, overlaps with an Eastern 8-to-5 day for about an hour in summer and not at all in winter.
That is why the practical answer is to agree the hours in writing: which hours an India-based team member will be online in your time zone, how quickly a message gets a reply, and who covers an urgent request. Used well, the gap works in your favor, because work moves overnight. Send a brief at 6 p.m. and the first version can be waiting at 8 a.m. Teams that run this well treat the end-of-day note as part of the product.
How to vet an India-based agency before you sign
This is where the outcome is decided. Ask all eight and compare the written answers, not the websites.
- Who exactly will do the work?
Get the name and role of the person on your account, not the founder who sells it. Ask how many other accounts that person handles.
- Can I see an account you currently manage?
A screen share of a live Google Ads or GA4 account with the client name hidden tells you more than a case study PDF.
- Whose name will the ad accounts be in?
Yours. You should be the owner, with the agency added as a user.
- What are the overlap hours, and who is online in them?
Get the hours in writing, in your time zone.
- What do you report on?
Leads, cost per lead and revenue. A report that opens with impressions is a warning.
- Can we start with one paid project?
A confident provider will agree. It is the cheapest test of working style.
- What are the payment terms?
Currency, who covers transfer fees, and confirmation that no extra tax will be added to your invoice.
- What happens to my data and logins when we stop?
Get the exit process in writing before you start.
Ad accounts, contracts and data
Cross-border work needs a few things written down that a local arrangement might leave implied.
Ad account ownership. Wisemonk quotes Google Ads Help as saying a client account can only have one owner, and that an agency’s manager account that creates a client account becomes its owner. We could not open Google’s page ourselves, so check it at support.google.com before relying on that wording. The principle is the same one US agencies publish: PPC Hero argues that the client should own the account and its data. Create your Google Ads, Meta Business, GA4 and Search Console accounts under your business and add the agency as a user.
Work product. State that copy, designs, website code and campaign assets belong to you on payment. Without it, ownership can be arguable.
Customer data and California law. If you handle personal information from California consumers, the CCPA and CPRA require a service-provider contract. Per Transcend’s summary, it must prohibit selling or sharing the data, limit use to the stated business purposes, let you verify compliance, require notice if the provider cannot comply, and require notice of any sub-processors. That summary is not the statute, so have counsel confirm the wording.
India’s data law. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Rules were notified on November 13, 2025, and the main obligations on data handlers begin on May 12, 2027, according to AZB & Partners (November 14, 2025). The law is being phased in, so ask any provider how they handle data today.
Notice and exit. In our view, thirty days’ notice either way is fair. Be careful with twelve-month lock-ins at the start.
White label: what US agencies should ask a supplier
If you resell marketing under your own brand, an India-based supplier works as your back office. The key difference from hiring direct is that your client should never see the supplier.
Published wholesale pricing varies. Techmagnate (August 12, 2026), an Indian white-label provider, says wholesale SEO runs about $100 to $300 a month for basic local SEO and $2,000 to $5,000 or more for enterprise, and that agencies typically resell at 1.5 to 3 times those rates. That is the seller’s own claim, so treat it as one data point.
- Reports under your brandDashboards, PDFs and emails should carry your name, not the supplier’s.
- No contact with your clientPut a no-contact and no-solicitation clause in the agreement, with a non-disclosure agreement.
- Accounts in your client’s nameThe same rule applies. You and the supplier are both users.
- Named contact and turnaroundAgree who you speak to and how many working days a deliverable takes.
Red flags
Most apply to any agency anywhere. They matter more at distance, because problems surface later.
- Guaranteed rankings or leadsNobody controls Google’s results. A guarantee means inexperience or a definition of “ranking” you will not like.
- Buying backlinks as the SEO planBuying links to pass ranking power is against Google’s spam policies. Ask how links are earned.
- An impossibly low priceA full-service plan at a few hundred dollars cannot fund real attention. Ask what is automated or left out.
- They keep the ad accountsA deal-breaker. Walk away.
- No named personIf nobody owns your account by name, nobody owns the result.
- No paid trialA provider confident in the work will take a small first project.
How to start: a pilot with pass/fail rules
Do not sign a retainer first. Run one paid, self-contained project and decide in advance what counts as a pass.
| What to test | Pass looks like | Fail looks like |
|---|---|---|
| Scope | One deliverable, such as an ad audit, a landing page or a technical SEO fix list | The scope keeps growing or shifting |
| Communication | Replies inside the agreed window; questions asked early | Silence, or questions that arrive after the deadline |
| Quality | You could use the work with light edits | Generic work you would have to redo |
| Access | You can see every account and file at all times | Anything held back |
| Reporting | Leads and cost per lead, with the method shown | Impressions and vague claims |
If the pilot passes, move to a three-month retainer with a named review point rather than an open-ended one. By month three you will know whether the overlap works, which is usually what decides it. Our service page for US small businesses shows how we scope this.
Paying an India-based agency from the US
Settle the money mechanics before the first invoice.
Most agencies accept international bank transfers, and many take Wise or Payoneer. Agree three things up front: the billing currency (ask for US dollars), who pays transfer and conversion fees, and written confirmation that no Indian tax will be added to your bill. Indian GST on services exported abroad is the supplier’s compliance matter, not yours, but ask them to state their position on the invoice.
Keep payment tied to deliverables, with the first invoice small. That is the same discipline you would use with a new US vendor.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to outsource digital marketing to India?
It depends on what you buy. Clutch (September 2026) lists India-based agency rates under $25 an hour against $100 to $149 for US agencies, and published monthly packages run from about $200 for basic SEO to $5,000 to $25,000 for a full-service team.
Ask each provider for the all-in monthly price against a written scope. Your ad budget is separate and does not change.
Is outsourcing digital marketing to India worth it?
For execution-heavy work you can specify, such as ad management, technical SEO, reporting and builds, often yes, because the cost base is lower. It is a poor fit if your offer or positioning is still unclear, because a team cannot fix that for you.
Run a paid pilot of 30 to 90 days with written pass/fail rules before you commit to a retainer.
Is the quality as good as a US agency?
It can be. The platforms, certifications and Google documentation are the same everywhere. Quality varies by provider in every country, so the answer depends on the specific team.
Judge it by who will do the work, a live account you can inspect, and how the provider reports results, not by the country.
How do we handle the time difference?
India is 9.5 to 13.5 hours ahead of the US depending on your zone and the season, and the gap changes by an hour when US clocks change because India does not use daylight saving time. Agree a written overlap window, a reply time and who covers urgent requests.
Used well, work moves overnight: a brief sent at 6 p.m. can have a first version waiting at 8 a.m.
Will my ad accounts belong to me?
They should. Create your Google Ads, Meta Business, GA4 and Search Console accounts under your own business and add the agency as a user. If a provider wants to own your accounts, walk away.
This protects your account history and data if you ever leave, and it is the same standard US agencies publish.
What about CCPA and my customers’ data?
If you handle personal information from California consumers, you need a service-provider contract with the agency that limits how the data is used, bars selling or sharing it, lets you verify compliance, and requires notice of sub-processors, according to a Transcend summary of the rules.
Have your lawyer confirm the wording, since a summary is not the statute. India’s own data protection rules are being phased in, with most duties starting May 12, 2027.
Should I use a white label agency or hire one directly?
If you are a US agency reselling the work under your own brand, white label suits you, because your client never sees the supplier and you keep the relationship. If you are the end business, hiring direct avoids a middleman’s markup.
One published example: an Indian white-label provider says agencies typically resell at 1.5 to 3 times wholesale rates. Treat that as a seller’s claim and ask for the supplier’s actual terms.
What is the biggest mistake businesses make when outsourcing?
Briefing too loosely. Work that survives a vague instruction in the same office fails across a time zone, because each question costs a day. The businesses that get good results write the scope down and define what success looks like in leads and cost per lead.
Keep the accounts in your name and start with a small paid project, so a bad fit costs weeks and not months.
